The Philadelphia 76ers fire Eddie Jordan

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Sixers News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 15 April 2010 at 12:42 pm

The Sixers decided they saw more than enough of head coach Eddie Jordan, firing him after only one season on the job. The Sixers were 27-55 on the season and 12-29 at home which is really pathetic. The Sixers were outscored by an average of 101.6-97.7 per night this year. It just seemed like the 76ers didn’t have any direction from Jordan despite the team having some talent. Good riddance.

The Sixers didn’t play any defense last night as the Magic shot 59.8% from the floor and that was the biggest reason for the loss. Marreese Speights led the way for the Sixers last night with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in only 23 minutes on the court. Samuel Dalembert only played 23 minutes in this game but he still put up 12 points and 5 rebounds. Willie Green (11), Rodney Carney (11), Lou Williams (10) and Jason Kapono (10) all pitched in offensively for the Sixers last night. The 76ers finish this season with a 27-55 record.

Miami Heat 107, Philadelphia 76ers 105

The 76ers showed a lot of heart last night before falling a bucket short against the playoff bound Miami Heat. The Sixers shot 54.7% from the floor last night as they got a couple of players out of mothballs who produced. Jason Kapono got the start at small forward and he responded by leading the way for the Sixers with 24 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Kapono shot 10 of 12 from the floor and 4 of 5 from three point range. Maybe the Sixers should have played him more this season. Jodie Meeks was electric off the bench as he finished up with 21 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in only 24 minutes last night. Elton Brand pitched in with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists last night. The 76ers are now 27-54 on the season.

The Philadelphia 76ers need to give Marreese Speights a lot of P.T. the rest of the year

Forget Elton Brand and Samuel Dalembert for the rest of the season. The 76ers need to give Marreese Speights big minutes to see what he can really do. Speights played 32 minutes last night against the Pistons in which he scored 21 points, he grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 2 assists and he had 1 steal. He has now played in 56 games (1 start) this season for the Sixers and he is averaging 16.0 minutes, 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.

The Philadelphia 76ers shut down Thaddeus Young for the year

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Sixers News, Injuries, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 7 April 2010 at 4:47 pm

The 76ers have shut down starting small forward Thaddeus Young for the year due to a fractured thumb. Young played in 67 games (45 starts) for the Sixers this season and he averaged 32.0 minutes, 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. This is a shame for the Sixers who are starting to look at there younger players the last week. Young played well for them this year.
