Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Thursday 7 January 2010 at 12:50 pm

Rookie point guard Jrue Holliday is undergoing growing pains this season for the 76ers. He has played in 25 games (10 starts) for the Sixers so far this season and he is averaging 17.7 minutes, 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Holliday is only shooting 35.6% from the floor this season and he won’t get much playing time until it improves.

Jrue Holliday is off to a slow start for the Philadelphia 76ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Sunday 15 November 2009 at 10:18 pm

19-year old rookie point guard Jrue Holliday is off to a slow start to his NBA career. He has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the 76ers so far this season and he is averaging 7.8 minutes, 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. As long as Lou Williams is playing well for the Sixers it doesn’t appear like there will be too many minutes for Holliday. Maybe the plan was to bring him along slowly as a rookie this season, after all, the kid is only 19 years old.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Thursday 27 November 2008 at 9:27 am

Backup power forward Marreese Speights is playing well off of the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers. He has played in 12 games for the 76ers this season and he is averaging 12.1 minutes, 5.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Speights will continue to get better as long as he follows Elton Brand’s example of how to work hard at all times.

The Philadelphia 76ers are happy with the rookie haul in last year’s draft

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 May 2008 at 8:54 am

The 76ers are happy with the rookies that brought in last June. Forward Thaddeus Young is an outstanding player who will probably move into the starting lineup full time as early as the start of next season. He played in 74 games (22 starts) this season and he averaged 21.0 minutes, 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Young also chose his shots well as he hit 53.9% from the floor this year. Young has the look of a future star for the Sixers.

F/C Jason Smith also could be a starter in the future for the Sixers as he was a solid sub for them as a rookie. Smith played in 76 games (1 start) for the 76ers this year and he averaged 14.6 minutes, 4.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Look for him to improve in 2008-09.

F/C Herbert Hill missed all of last season due to injury but the Sixers like him.

The rookies of the Philadelphia 76ers are a talented bunch

Thaddeus Young and Jason Smith look like they are going to help the 76ers for a long, long time. Young has played in 52 games (13 starts) this season for the Sixers and he is averaging 18.7 minutes, 7.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Young has shot 52.4% from the floor and 69.6% from the free throw line this season. Look for his numbers to improve now that he’s getting more playing time. 7-foot tall Jason Smith has been a solid reserve this season for the 76ers. He has played in 55 games (1 start) this season for the 76ers and he is averaging 15.2 minutes, 4.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He has made 45.4% of his shots from the floor so far this season and he is shooting only 63.6% from the free throw line. The Sixers other rookie (Herbert Hill) has missed all of his rookie season thus far due to injury.

The Philadelphia 76ers will look to increase the playing time of their rookies

The 76ers really like the potential of forwards Jason Smith and Thaddeus Young so look for their playing time to increase soon. Smith has played in 28 games so far this season for the Sixers and he is averaging 15.8 minutes, 4.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Young has played in 20 games so far this season and he is averaging 10.4 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. F/C Herbert Hill has been out all season thus far due to injury.

Herbert Hill is out indefinately for the Philadelphia 76ers

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,Injuries,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 November 2007 at 6:47 pm

Rookie forward Herbert Hill is out indefinately after undergoing surgery for torn cartilage in his left knee. He hasn’t played a game yet this season but the Sixers will miss him because of how poorly they have started out this season.

The Philadelphia 76ers release rookie guard Derrick Byars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Friday 26 October 2007 at 10:56 am

The 76ers have waived rookie guard Derrick Byars. Byars only played in 1 game this pre-season and he scored 2 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and stole the ball 1 time in 14 minutes. Byars just fell too far behind the guards in front of him but he might get a shot with some other team.

The rookies of the Philadelphia 76ers earn a C

The grade could go up much higher in the future as Rodney Carney and Bobby Jones look like they might turn out to be pretty good basketball players. Forward Rodney Carney played in 67 games this season and he averaged 17.4 minutes, 6.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. He could be a future starter for the Sixers as it appears that he’s got game. Forward Bobby Jones played in 44 games and he averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game this season. He showed at the end of the season that he could play when the Sixers finally let him get his butt off of the bench. Forward Louis Amundson played in 11 games this season and he averaged 8.1 minutes, 1.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. He rebounded well in his limited time but it’s too early to tell whether he will be a decent player or not.

Rookie Rodney Carney likely out for the season

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injuries,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Monday 5 March 2007 at 12:23 am

Rodney Carney has a torn right rotator cuff and labrum and will likely miss the remainder of his rookie season. He played in 55 games and he averaged 17.4 minutes, 6.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He was a decent shooter from the floor as he hit 45.5% of his shots. But, he wasn’t a good free throw shooter as he only made 60.3% of his charity tosses. He looks like a keeper for the rebuilding 76ers.
