Youth will be served at the point for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2010-11
20-year old Jrue Holiday will be the starting point guard for the Sixers this year. Holiday played in 73 games (51 starts) for the Sixers last season and he averaged 24.2 minutes, 8.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game as a rookie. Holiday also shot 39% from three point range as he didn’t look at all intimidated by the NBA. The Sixers really need Holiday to be a pass first point guard to keep everyone involved in the offense when he is on the court.
23-year old Lou Williams was the starting point guard when the 2009-2010 season started. But, he fractured his jaw and when he came back the kid had staked his claim to Williams’ old job. Williams is more of a combo guard anyway as he likes to make sure that he gets his points. Williams played in 64 games (38 starts) for the Sixers last season and he averaged 29.9 minutes, 14.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He has now played in 316 games (38 starts) in his first five years in the NBA and he has averaged 20.7 minutes, 10.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Don’t worry about Williams as he will get his minutes and points in 2010-11.
