Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by admin on Monday 19 March 2012 at 2:43 pm

24-year old shooting guard Jodie Meeks has been sent to the bench lately, with Evan Turner taking his old starting job at shooting guard.  Meeks played in 9 games (2 starts) for the 76ers so far in March and he is averaging 15.9 minutes, 5.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  He has now played in 45 games (38 starts)  so far this year for the Sixers and he is averaging 24.2 minutes, 8.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  The Sixers finally realized that Meeks only real skill is his shooting, as Turner is a way better basketball player than he is.

The Sixers have bought out 32-year old forward Andres Nocioni.  Nocioni played in 11 games (1 start) for the 76ers this year and he averaged 5.1 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  Nocioni only shot 25% from the floor this year for the Sixers.  He played in 65 games (18 starts) in his two years with the 76ers and he averaged 15.2 minutes, 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  The 76ers won’t miss Nocioni too bad going forward as he wasn’t in the playing rotation.

The Philadelphia 76ers acquire Sam Young from the Grizzlies

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 March 2012 at 3:12 pm

The 76ers have acquired 26-year old SG/SF Sam Young from the Memphis Grizzlies the right to 24-year old forward Ricky Sanchez.  Sanchez has yet to play in the NBA, so this is no loss for the Sixers.  Young played in 21 games (2 starts) for the Grizzlies this year and he averaged 11.4 minutes, 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists and per game.  Young is only shooting 38.6% from the floor so far this year.  Young has now played in 179 games (49 starts) in his first three years in the NBA and he is averaging 17.5 minutes, 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  Young is shooting 45.5% from the floor in his career, so look for his shooting to improve in Philly.  I really like this deal for the Sixers as Sam Young is a team player who will fit in perfectly in their style of play.
