Sorry Sixers’ fans, Allen Iverson should not be in the All-Star Game

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,General,NBA Blogs by Andrew on Monday 25 January 2010 at 2:24 pm

Allen Iverson is no doubt a future Hall-of-Famer and the 34-year-old still has a lot of game left, but he is past his All-Star days and definitely does not deserve to be a starting guard on this year’s Eastern Conference All-Stars.  Iverson was voted in by the fans because of his popularity, but his numbers are not worthy of his selection.  Iverson has only played in 21 games this season, averaging 14.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 31.2 minutes.  There are plenty of guards in the East that are more deserving, like Joe Johnson, Stephen Jackson, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Mo Williams, and more.  This has been Iverson’s worst season and he has barely played half of it, but the fans are still showing the 11-time All-Star love.  Still, I think the classy thing for Iverson to do is to not accept and let a more deserving player take his spot.

The Philadelphia 76ers need more out of Elton Brand

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by alleyoop on Saturday 23 January 2010 at 4:21 pm

30-year old Elton Brand is really starting to look like a average player at best. He has played in 38 games (19 starts) for the Sixers this season and he is averaging 29.9 minutes, 13.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per game. Brand is averaging 37.5 minutes, 19.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocked shots per game in his NBA career. The 76ers really hope that Brand finds a second wind the rest of the year because he appears to be slipping some as a player.

Allen Iverson is playing o.k. for the Philadelphia 76ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Sunday 17 January 2010 at 10:01 pm

Allen Iverson has played in 14 games (all starts) for the Sixers this season and he is averaging 33.4 minutes, 15.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. His arthritic knees are starting to slow him down but A.I. can still bring it when he’s healthy enough to get onto the court. If I were running the Sixers with the way this season is going I would keep A.I. the rest of the year and start him when he is up to it.

Samuel Dalembert’s name has been coming up in trade rumors for the Philadelphia 76ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Monday 11 January 2010 at 11:10 pm

Starting center Samuel Dalembert is a player being mentioned quite a bit in trade talks. There are a few teams looking for starting centers in the trade market so maybe the Sixers could get something decent for him. Dalembert has played in 36 games (all starts) for the 76ers so far this season and he is averaging 25.1 minutes, 7.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.2 blocked shots per game. If the Sixers move Dalembert they will miss his rebounding and defense around the basket.

Jrue Holliday is not showing much for the Philadelphia 76ers yet

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Thursday 7 January 2010 at 12:50 pm

Rookie point guard Jrue Holliday is undergoing growing pains this season for the 76ers. He has played in 25 games (10 starts) for the Sixers so far this season and he is averaging 17.7 minutes, 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Holliday is only shooting 35.6% from the floor this season and he won’t get much playing time until it improves.

The Philadelphia 76ers should resist trading Andre Iguodala

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Monday 4 January 2010 at 10:06 pm

If the Sixers decide to give up this season they shouldn’t trade Andre Iguodala. Iguodala has played in 33 games (all starts) for the 76ers this season and he is averaging 39.8 minutes, 18.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Iguodala is the best player on the team and he could be the player the younger players look up to if the Sixers start rebuilding soon.
