San Antonio Spurs 97, Philadelphia 76ers 89

The 76ers only shot 39.3% from the floor and that is just not good enough to get the job done against a team like the Spurs. Andre Iguodala led the way for the Sixers last night by stuffing the stat sheet with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocked shots. Willie Green got a rare start and he ran with it scoring 17 points, dishing out 3 assists, stole the ball twice and he blocked 3 shots. Thaddeus Young pitched in with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists last night. The 76ers are now 5-12 on the season.

Are the Philadelphia 76ers on the verge of bringing back Allen Iverson?

With starting point guard Louis Williams out the next 8 weeks after surgery to repair a fractured jaw the Sixers have turned to 19-year old rookie first round pick Jrue Holliday to run the offense. He has looked a little overwhelmed so far which has the Sixers’ management considering bringing back Allen Iverson. The Sixers really have nothing to lose by bringing in the Answer as they are 5-11 right now and they are having problems scoring points. Iverson played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies earlier this season and he averaged 22.3 minutes, 12.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Iverson has now played in 889 games (877 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 41.4 minutes, 27.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. This is a match made in heaven so the Sixers have to sign up the Answer so he can come home where he played the best basketball of his NBA career.

UPDATE: Iverson has signed a 1-year deal with the Sixers.

The Sixers didn’t play any defense last night as the Hawks shot 51.4% and they outrebounded Philly 42-32 which explains the loss. Thaddeus Young led the way for the Sixers last night with 22 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Andre Iguodala stuffed the stat sheet last night with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Jason Smith got the start at PF in place of a injured Elton Brand and he responded with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in 28 minutes. The 76ers are now 5-11 on the season.

The Sixers were undermanned last night but they hung in there until the end of the game as they were outscored 34-25 in the 4th quarter. Andre Iguodala led the way for the Sixers last night with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Jason Kapono pitched in with 20 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist in 29 minutes off the bench. Willie Green also was very solid off the bench for the Sixers last night with 18 points, 1 rebound and 4 assists in only 14 minutes. The 76ers are now 5-10 on the year.

The Philadelphia 76ers lose Lou Williams

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Sixers News, Injuries, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 25 November 2009 at 5:06 pm

The Sixers have lost starting point guard Lou Williams for at least tonight with a fractured jaw that he injured last night. He has played in 14 games (all starts) for the Sixers this season and he is averaging 34.8 minutes, 17.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. His loss will be huge especially if rookie Jrue Holliday doesn’t step up. Holliday has played in 8 games (0 starts) so far this season and he is averaging 7.6 minutes, 3.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Royal Ivey will also likely see a bump in playing time for the Sixers as long as Williams is out of action. Ivey has played in 9 games (0 starts) this season for the Sixers and he is averaging 8.8 minutes, 2.2 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. The Sixers better hope that Williams is ready to return soon because he has been playing very well for them this year.

UPDATE: Williams will miss the next 8 weeks after he underwent jaw surgery to repair the fracture in it. This will really hurt the 76ers.
