The Philadelphia 76ers are loaded at shooting guard

25-year old Andre Iguodala is a player on the rise for the Sixers. He played in all 82 games for them last season and he averaged 39.9 minutes, 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He is capable of scoring more this season and the Sixers will be depending on him to do that to help make up for the loss of Andre Miller. 28-year old Willie Green comes off the bench shooting the basketball. He played in 81 games for the Sixers last season and he averaged 22.6 minutes, 8.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. If forced into the starting lineup Green could average around 15 points per game. 25-year old Rodney Carney was brought back this off-season to Philly. He played in 67 games for the T-Wolves last season and he averaged 17.9 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.

The Philadelphia 76ers have a new look at point guard

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,NBA Blogs by alleyoop on Saturday 19 September 2009 at 5:15 pm

The 76ers let Andre Miller go as a free agent and that could come back to haunt them this season. 22-year old Louis Williams will take over for Miller as the starting point guard this season. He played in 81 games for the 76ers last season and he averaged 23.7 minutes, 12.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Williams will probably be a shoot first point guard which will be a change of style at the point guard position. 19-year old Jrue Holliday was the Sixers’ first round pick out of UCLA (17th pick). The Sixers will probably use kid gloves with Holliday this season unless Williams gets hurt in which case he would probably start. 27-year old Royal Ivey will be back for the Sixers but that’s nothing to be happy about. He played in 71 games for the 76ers last season and he averaged 12.1 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. If he plays more that 12.1 minutes a game this season the Sixers are in big trouble.

The Philadelphia 76ers invite a couple of veterans to training camp

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Saturday 19 September 2009 at 3:15 pm

The Sixers have invited 24-year old SG Sean Singletary and 27-year old center Jared Reiner to training camp. Singletary played in 37 games (2 starts) for the Suns and Bobcats as a rookie last season. He averaged 8.2 minutes, 2.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. But, he didn’t shoot too well hitting only 36.5% of his shots from the floor. Reiner last played in the NBA during the 2006-07 season with the Bucks. He has played in 46 games (4 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 8.2 minutes, 1.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Reiner has not shot the ball well at all in the NBA hitting only 34.2% from the floor and 28.6% from the free throw line. Singletary might be able to help the Sixers off the bench but if Reiner makes the team and gets to play the Sixers will be in trouble.

UPDATE: Singletary as well as Stromile Swift have been released by the 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers bring back Rodney Carney

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 16 September 2009 at 11:33 pm

The Sixers have signed 25-year old SG/SF Rodney Carney bringing him back to where he played the first two years of his NBA career. Carney played in 67 games (6 starts) for the T-Wolves last season and he averaged 17.9 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. In his three years in the NBA, Carney has played in 204 games (47 starts) in which he has averaged 16.7 minutes, 6.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. This was a good move for the Sixers as Carney should help them off the bench this season.

The Off-Season has been brutal so far for the Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers brought in sharp shooting Jason Kapono in a trade with the Raptors and he should help them off the bench. Center Primoz Brezec will earn some backup minutes after signing on as a free agent. Veteran point guard Royal Ivey came back to the Sixers when he found out that he wasn’t that wanted. But, the guy the Sixers really need to shine is 1st round pick Jrue Holiday. That’s because the Sixers need a point guard after letting Andre Miller sign with the Trailblazers. Backup power forward was moved to the Raptors in the Kapono trade.
