Point Guards

The 76ers have moved AI to shooting guard, but the thinking is that he will play some at the point. But, for now it looks like Kevin Ollie will get a chance to start for the Sixers. Ollie is a traditional pass first point guard that doesn’t turn the ball over. The question is, can he hold up to a large workload? He hasn’t played big minutes in his career and has only averaged 16.1 minutes per game. Ollie has career averages of 4.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Willie Green might get a shot at alot of playing time here, if he can handle the point. Green would be more of a score-first point guard which could clash with AI and C-Web. Nevertheless, he’s a better option/athlete than Kevin Ollie. Green has only averaged 16.6 minutes per game, but 7.3 points which shows he has scoring potential. He must get better at passing the ball if he wants to play point-guard for the Sixers. Green has only averaged 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game for his career, and those numbers have to improve.

Second year guard Louis Williams looks like the #3 guy here. He played in 30 games as a rookie, but only averaged 5.0 minutes per game and 1.9 points.

Maurice Cheeks

Maurice Cheeks probably couldn’t resist coaching for the team he played for and helped win a championship, but this team is close to being a sinking ship. Players weren’t showing him much respect and showed up real late to games last season. If he doesn’t get control of the team, this could get ugly fast. Cheeks was 38-44 in his first season back home in Philly. Cheeks has a five year career record of 200-183.

Cheeks has a record of 3-7 in two playoff appearances.
